| FALL |
[Oct. 10th, 2009|04:21 pm] |
so apparently i only have time to update this on a seasonal basis. must be because i'm so busy in real life. seriously, where the fuck does the time go?
purchased/downloaded four new albums in the past two days. WOOOO! The XX - The XX WHY? - Eskimo Snow Tiesto - Kaleidoscope The Mountain Goats - The Life of the World to Come
I've heard pretty much all of The XX and Kaleidoscope already.. The XX is one of the best first records i've heard in a while (haven't felt like this since Bloc Party's 'Silent Alarm'). Kaleidoscope has some very good songs with guest vocals, but then slips into hard trance out of nowhere. It's a pretty solid album all around if you like electro, minus the nelly furtado song which is intensely bad and reminds me of a trip to A&F.
i don't really know where this is going... i wish i actually kept a daily journal. because especially after nights like last, im thinking i could sell that shit. or read it for shits and giggles when im decrepit.
i seem to be coming down with a nasty cough which signifies too much smoking, but more likely - an oncoming flu/cold... so, prob going to have a lot more time to write in this thing.
note: i resent that the lazy and lethargic emoticons for the mood are slanty/sad faces. i'm a totally content lethargic right now. |

| summer, drinking, pretending you have rhythm music |
[Jul. 22nd, 2009|12:40 am] |
the past 24 hours have been SUPER exciting with new music. or newly discovered old music (HEY Cat Stevens!).
most exciting... new David Guetta/Akon track. so the lyrics are a little, ridiculously bad... but the beat is siccckkk and makes me want to go out.. so, one up on the partyparty playlist!
and while guetta/akon will be topping my Tracks charts, La Roux will be climbing the Artists... Definitely not an artist/type of music that I can see myself enjoying long term, but a long the lines of arctic monkeys, spoon, passion pit - they're good for a summer, or the random hit song.
and after two weeks of bad mouthing bloc party's "one more chance".. i'm now hooked on it and have been eating up every video/remix possible. i think this is my fave, though tiesto is a VERYCLOSE second.
oh, and of course on the eve of my most active music acquiring day.. my macbook speakers fuck up. i can only hear audio through my headphones. apparently its not too big of a problem, but i def need to visit the genius bar at apple. boooo making that trip, yay hot men who know how to fix things. |

| makes me wish i hadn't skipped out on the m83 show last week |
[Jul. 19th, 2009|09:54 pm] |
A lively crowd at the Wexner Center for Performing Arts, located on the Ohio State University campus, moved and danced to the electronic beats of M83 last night. What they didn’t expect from the French trio — Anthony Gonzalez, keyboardist Morgan Kibby and drummer Loic Maurin — was a wild ‘n’ crazy brawl. Though, that’s exactly what happened… eventually. As the band meandered through their electro-heavy set, including standouts “Sitting” and “Don’t Save Us From The Flames”, conflict awaited around the bend. Although the action lay mostly with the crowd throughout the night, what would happen on stage would prove to be the highlight come closing time.
Moments before M83’s set came to a finish, during closer “Couleurs”, Kibby invited the mainly docile crowd on stage to “bring down the house together.” While 30 or so accepted the invitation (including myself), and one concert-goer even went so far as to knock over the glass shield in front of Maurin, all three members remained unfazed and continued through their dynamic jam. Unfortunately, not everyone held those exact sentiments.
Production staff at the Wexner Center started breaking it up. Fans were ushered off stage, then abruptly pushed off, to which it became a screaming jamboree. Although the fans followed orders, Gonzalez was not happy. He wasn’t having it. Because 30 seconds later, he waved fans on stage again, all in the name of dance. This time, however, production staff became angry, violent, and irate. Immediately, they pushed oncoming fans off the stage and stood at the front blockading people from jumping back up. This didn’t sit well with Gonzalez, who blew up, yelling “Fuck you” into the microphone at the production staff for messing up their set, all while the two accompanying musicians continued playing. You can only imagine the musical genius at hand.
While one member of their touring staff tried to quell the argument, it was too late. Gonzalez left his post and confronted the production manager for the venue head on, hitting him violently with the open palm of his left hand. The crowd, which continued dancing, appeared stunned as well. Strangers turned awestruck to their neighbors as if to say, “Did you see that?”. What’s more (and kind of, um, bad ass), the band actually finished its song, and Gonzalez jumped into the excited crowd, who threw him up jubilantly. Soon after, M83 exited and the fans dispersed, knowing they not only saw a great show, but saw their newfound hero (Gonzalez) kick ass in their name.
After everyone had abandoned the scene, they all gathered by the tour bus, where Kibby stood and chatted with fans. Much like her fanbase, she was as awestruck as anyone. When asked about the incident she stated “I’ve never seen that before.” Fans continued waiting for Gonzalez, who arrived a few minutes later and received a warm ovation from the onlookers. Though clearly annoyed and pissed, he greeted the fans with thanks and appreciation before climbing back on the bus with the rest of the group.
Needless to say, Ohio State University will likely not want M83 back for a show in the future, but loyal fans will surely want to see them back in Columbus… preferably at another venue.

| | Daniel Johnston | ] | so Phoenix has been around for years. I think most people finally heard about them thanks to SNL (ahh you're still good for something ole chap!). I don't know how I feel about them. One of those bands I'd have to see live to decide. 1901 and Lasso are pretty good songs, everything else is mediocre-good, with a couple outright boring tunes (One Time Too Many, Love Like a Sunset?!) sadly two tickets to their show with Passion Pit at Central Park are 70 bucks. SEVENTY. wtf. and i mean.. maybe, okay, if it was at MHoW.. but RUMSEY PLAYFIELD?! one of the shittiest venues in the city. might as well be standing right outside the fence and get a free show. wait a second. i think i'll just do that. :)
Forever is a long, long time When you've lost your way
Tryin' to follow your ideals Oh sorry But your so-called life It is such a waste
Where're your real eyes? No you don't realize What you say yes to But you say yes too
ALSO, *ERIC* this (below) looks ridiculously awesome. why did we miss it?! :(

| the night i almost castrated a man |
[Jun. 25th, 2009|04:02 am] |
WTF. seriously, never have I had a creepier experience in my 16 years of living in NYC... let's start.. here..
so i'm on the train.. it's completely empty.. i'm tired and tipsy so i stretch my legs out on the seat. I must have dozed off because when i woke up about 6 stops later, there was a man sitting right next to my feet as if I was in his way.... I did a quick look over the subway car and realized it was mostly empty except for this man by my feet and two guys sitting across from me. I assumed they were all together and being dicks so I just took my feet down, sat normally, leaned my head against the handrail and dozed off again.
About two stops later I woke up and noticed the man that was previously sitting by my feet was now sitting right next to me, practically on top of me. I looked at him and was like "what the fuck are you doing?" (he didn't respond.. retarded?) ... sent a look of death to the two guys across from me (still assuming they were together)... and moved to another seat. Not a minute passed by when the creepy guy got up, and came to sit right next to me again. I looked him right in the face, yelled "NO, get the fuck away from me" and moved again. He sat there for a minute and then he left the car. (out of the corner of my eye I noticed he just ran to the next car) Whatever. I stay awake, text Jen and Dara the details thus far, and take out my keys incase I need to use them as a weapon.
The two guys that I assumed were with the creeper get off at one of the next stops.. the subway car is now completely empty except for me and a sleeping bum in the far end. At the stop right before mine, the super creep comes back into my car and sits next to me. At this point, I just scream a resounding NO in his face, and stay standing until it's time to get off whilst shooting him dirty looks. When I finally do leave the car, I take my time walking to the stairs, making sure the car doors close without the creep leaving.
Somewhat relieved, I make sure to smile at the guy in the booth - - just to make some impression on him incase it comes down to anything serious. (as in, when was the last time this girl was seen before she was raped and murdered..etc) ANYWAY. I'm home now. And slightly shaken up, but mostly pissed off. WHO THE FUCK. WHAT THE FUCK. ugh I almost wish he tried something more so I had cause to beat the shit out of him in whatever way I deemed fit for "self-defense." Seriously, how deluded do you have to be to think this type of behavior is okay? To victimize a sleeping girl on the subway? GET REAL. |

we'll end up numb from playing video games and we'll get sick of having sex
and we'll get fat from eating candy as we drink ourselves to death,
we'll stay up late making mix tapes photoshopping pictures of ourselves
while we masturbate to these pixelated videos of strangers fucking themselves
we are very busy people we are very busy people
there's crusty socks and stacks of pizza boxes making trails straight to the bed
and when we're done sleeping we'll stay busy dreaming of the things we don't have yet
well there's a long long list of chores and shit to do before we play, oh let's just piss away the day
crank call the cops down at the station just for friendly conversation requesting songs they never play
let's hear the one that goes like we are very busy people but we've always got time for new friends
so come on over and knock on our door it's open, what's ya waiting for
we might be spawled out on the floor but we still make lovely company
pull up a chair i'll pour some tea we'll shoot the shit 'bout everything til you get sick of politics and flip on the tv screen we stare at the tv screen
that donnie darko DVD has been repeating for a week and we know every single word
i've got an ipod like a pirate ship i'll sail the seas with fifty thousand songs i've never heard all the best of them go fa la la la la la la la... |

[Apr. 27th, 2009|02:42 pm] |
i know worrying is pointless but I can't stop thinking about how shitty the next couple months are going to be. blasting trance/punk music seems to be the only cure atm. but i feel like thats just avoiding the problem instead of being proactive and looking for a job or doing work so my grades aren't total shit... oh and swine flu. cool. nice timing. sylwia is going to mexico on monday... hope she doesn't get face mask tan lines.. oooh, uncomfortable joke. but before that... sylwia AND laura are coming to visit this weekend. a crosby show, drinking, spring fling.. fun! and it will be right after this essay presentation is over so I won't be as on edge and can finally relax until i start thinking about those 3 essays due in a week. COOL!
once in a while mike skinner surprises me, in a good way. btw just remembered when i went to visit dana in london and started walking with some guy and had him take me to some street fair and discuss the merits of 'the streets' and then trust him enough to bring me back to that one street that looked familiar. ha, i wonder where that guy is...

This song reminds me a lot of Radiohead. What's the point of sounding like one of the greatest artists of all time, knowing you'll never eclipse them in any way? I don't know, but I'm still enjoying this song for what it is. Regardless of what happens to the band.

[Apr. 5th, 2009|01:30 am] |
this article totally misses the point.
Balancing the Global Need for Meat
as if people who endorse a vegetarian/vegan diet EVER suggest that developing nations' meat consumption is the problem. and if that is someone's stance on the ethical/climate argument for being veg then they're as ignorant as the guy who wrote that article.
also, been reading more articles on the overpopulation of the Earth, the rising unemployment rate and N Korea launching that missile/rocket.... the news is such a downer.
on a happier note... UNC beat Villanova! UNC vs Michigan State, monday night!
on an EVEN happier note, leaving for ithaca tomorrow morning to see Girl Talk with d-monkeyz! CANT WAIT! and digging up a girl talk video to post from bonnaroo 07 (BEST!) just made me WAY excited for summer time!

Phantogram - Mouthful of Diamonds
Bat for Lashes - Daniel
D.I.M. - Is You
disappointment.
Brontosaurus Chorus. i really wanted to like you. just because of the name. but you make me dislike indie pop even more than i already did from spending my time in London surrounded by it. |

[Mar. 20th, 2009|03:01 pm] |
I remember when, when I first moved here a long time ago, cause I heard some song I used to hear back then a long time ago.
And the question is was I more alive than right now? I happily have to disagree I laugh more often now I cry more often now I am more me.
But of course somedays I just lie around and hardly exist and can't tell apart what I'm eating from my hand or my wrist.
Cause flesh is flesh, flesh is flesh is flesh the difference is thin but life has a certain ability of breathing new life into me so I breathe it in it tells me here you are and here all you are here and still can make sense if you just show up and present an honest face instead of that grin.
